Mind your words...

After the end of tutorial, some of us headed to the elevator to proceed to another lecture. When the lift opens, there were 2 students inside (from China). As my coursemates and me squeezed into the lift, thus making it very packed and the 2 students were right at the back of the lift.

Lift closes and went a floor up when it stopped. The 2 students instead of excusing their way out...they kept quiet and push their way out...literally shoving some of the girls aside to get out. All the while I was holding the "open" button of the lift....whats the rush?

After the fiasco, the lift closes and we recovered from the little outburst...but my local friend have to say something, "Aiyoh! China people like dat wan...tch tch!".

The whole lift went silent, cold and uncomfortable all of a sudden. Why? One of my coursemate inside the lift comes from China...... Luckily it was said in more of a jest tone and he promptly apologizes to our china friend.

But this does not end.

On the way out to Canteen A after the last lecture only an hour after the incident... something happens. Another local friend and me were trudging our way to the bus stop with a group of foreign students (from my course) in front of us.

There was a buffet spread outside one of the Lecture Theatre. Two of the girls in the group in front of me and my friend were excited and approached the buffet, pointing here and there and making squeals of excitement.

However, one of the girls in the group, an indian national, quickly exclaimed in thick indian accent, "Now now, don't act like a typical Singaporean...!"..............................

Funny, but the typical Singaporeans (my friend and I) are not in the least bit keen on the buffet...

I'm not here to critisize people on their racist or cultural(ist) remarks, just find it curious that both sides have something to say about each other, whether we know it or not. But whatever the case, please try to refrain from talking bad about others, whether openly or privately.

Remember, don't be a typical Singaporean...only know how to complain...
